Blazers
Blazers has been a producer and DJ for over a decade. Originally from Paris, he recently moved to Normandy in order to have more space for his studio. He also moved to be closer to nature, and to be able to make some noise without interruptions! As a producer he is passionate about sharing emotions through music, and the way some chords and melodies can resonate to anyone.
When asked about his production style he confesses that he is not good at outing a label on his own music, but if he had to choose it would be mostly house/deep house, even though he likes to diversify his productions in genres he is not accustomed to, like ambient or hip-hop.
For nightlife he really loves La Bellevilloise and La Java in Paris, two clubs where the audience have a very nice spirit and much respect to the music and the artists. He also loves Drak-Art in Grenoble due to the good memories he has of the place.
We were keen to find out where Blazers has gigged recently. He told us that he played in Process Bar in Erevan, Armenia, thanks to fellow deep house DJ Scruscru. Even though the bar was small, he states, it was an intimate place, very comfy and warm. It turned out to be an awesome night and he felt very lucky to play music far from home. One of his favourite gigs played was at a night in La Belle Electrique in Grenoble. The nerves kicked in and he was “extremely stressed” to play in front of a packed room with an outstanding sound system, before Lazare Hoche and Detroit Swindle. He says that he thinks he played a horrendous set, which we are sure is not the case, but the place was absolutely great.
When asked about which artists inspire him he explained that it’s hard to say because there are many, but Kerri Chandler, Brawther, Lone and Jimmy Edgar have been a huge influence for the electronic music production side. Regarding his DJ side, he lists Bradley Zero, Moxie and Éclair Fifi as influences.
At the moment Blazers is digging every John Caroll Kirby productions for the past few months. He feels that he’s very good at creating classy melodies as well as having a warm funky sound. As it’s summer he has been spending a lot of time listening to music that makes you feel like you’re sunbathing : Kiefer, Khruangbin, Steely Dan and DJ Harrison. Not a lot of electronic music actually.
Blazers has a few tracks that are being released in the coming months. There’s an EP on Scruscru’s label, a remix on Sengiley Records, and some other stuff not officially planned yet.
When we were discussing his production history we went right back to the start. His first “official” track was an unofficial remix of a French singer, François Feldman. The second one was an unofficial remix of George Benson’s Give Me The Night. Both are heavily compressed and have a lot of flanger/chorus in them to stick to the French house vibe, which was in place 11 years ago. He stated that “The two tracks sound like shit but they’re still available on my Soundcloud, for fun”. One year later, he made an edit of Bonita Applebum from A Tribe Called Quest that he was prouder of.
Blazers’ most favourite produced track was the soundtrack he made for Dream Machine, a short film shot by a friend that he has been working on. This will be released soon on a streaming platform. Apart from this, Stingray is a favourite, due to its unusual structure, and Special Way for the emotions put in it.
Most of his tracks are on Traxsource and Beatport. Otherwise, there are on Spotify and Deezer.
We would like to thank him for his time – Check out the mix below.
